DECORATED BOILED EGGS
To personalise your coloured eggs, try the following:
In a cup or bowl deep enough so that the egg can be completely covered, mix 1 tsp of food colour with 1 tbs of white vinegar and half a cup of warm water. (If you want a more intense colour, use 2 tsp of colour and 3 tbs of vinegar.)
Using a light coloured wax crayon, draw designs on your egg. Start with the lightest colour and dip eggs either partially or fully into colour and hold until the desired intensity is reached – this could take anywhere from 10 seconds to 4 minutes. Remove egg from colour and dry on an absorbent paper towel. You can repeat the process by drawing on new designs and re-dipping the egg, and you can overlap colours for variety. Always start with the lightest colour and work your way to the darker ones. Polish finished eggs with a lightly oiled (vegetable oil) cloth.
Tips & Tricks Lay newspaper on the bench or table top - do not do this on natural stone or marble bench tops. Wear plastic gloves. Make sure the eggs are clean and dry before decorating. Crayons will draw best onto a warm egg.
